Is it realistic to compare the leadership styles of business and political leaders? What can each learn from the other?
What will be an ideal response?
Democratic political leaders are subject to periodic re-election, which tends to make their strategies and
priorities short-term. The same seems increasingly true of business leaders, although they have more
scope to secure their tenure by achieving well on a limited range of growth and profit objectives. In
respect of their personal qualities and their skills there are similarities and differences among leaders, for
example degree of charisma, willingness to engage with detail, organizational and political skills; but
arguably there is no systematic difference between the political and business classes of leader.
