Give an example of a teacher using an effective approach when reading a book to young children.

What will be an ideal response?

First, the teacher should choose a book that she would enjoy reading and that the children would find engaging. After this, the teacher could practice reading the book to a friend or her own child or on videotape. Doing this would allow her to hone her delivery and think of appropriate voices for the characters. When reading the story to the children in her class, the teacher should do so with enthusiasm, using her voice to make the characters and action come alive. Also, the teacher should stop every so often and ask the children what they think of what just happened or what will happen next. In addition, the teacher could ask what they think of certain pictures. Doing so will encourage a discussion of the book, making it more memorable for the children. After the reading, the teacher should have a group discussion about the entire book and try to relate the story to the children's personal experiences.
