Discuss the five-step approach suggested by Whittemore and Knafl (2005).

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: Problem identification, literature search, data evaluation, data analysis and presentation. The first step is to identify a problem of interest. In counseling, it can be the use of a particular counseling intervention or psychological issue. For education, it may be the effectiveness of a particular teaching practice. The next step is to conduct a literature search and systematically gather published studies on the identified problem. The third step is data evaluation. Data evaluation in integrative reviews is not as systematic as meta-analyses. The fourth step is data analysis and includes determining the quality of the publication, for example, a primary source. Last, there is presentation of the integrative review and systematically sharing the outcomes in a professional journal publication.
