A house has outside walls made of brick with a thermal conductivity of 1.20 W/m-K. The wall thickness is 0.20 m.

(a) If the inside temperature of the wall is 20.0°C and the outside temperature of the wall is -10.0°C, determine the heat transfer rate per unit area from conduction (the conductive heat flux) for the wall.
(b) For an inside wall temperature of 20.0oC, plot the conductive heat flux through the wall for outside wall temperatures ranging from 30.0°C to -15.0°C.
(c) For an outside wall temperature of - 10.0°C, plot the conductive heat flux for inside wall temperatures ranging from 15.0°C to 25.0°C.

Discuss how this relates to gaining cost savings by heating a home to a lower temperature in the winter.

Given: k= 1.20 W/m-K; ?x = 0.20 m
