How might the writing process change in relation to writing tasks?

What will be an ideal response?

Explicit writing tasks for which students are amply prepared may seem to require less or different pre-writing. Not all tasks require the same kinds of prewriting. For instance, outlining may not be appropriate for writing that follows a sequence of events, but it may be very helpful in guiding an analytical argument based around themes, trends, or reasons. Tasks that require finished writing should provide ample time for revision of student work, and care should be given to ensure that such tasks are evidently worth what will likely feel like extra effort on the part of students. Having an external outlet often presents a rationale for revision that submitting to a teacher only may seem to lack.
