Trachea—the windpipe, reinforced by cartilaginous rings, which
runs from the glottis to the thoracic cavity where it divides to form the bronchi to the lungs.
The trachea carries oxygen and carbon dioxide between the lungs and the nasal
passages. Esophagus—part of the alimentary canal between the mouth and the
stomach. It is a very muscular organ but has no cartilaginous rings like the trachea.
