Provide reasons for why recreation and religious programs should be provided in prisons

What will be an ideal response?

Recreation programs are essential in prisons because the benefit both prisoners as a rehabilitation tool and the prison itself as a management tool to keep inmates busy at acceptable activities. Religious programs, as probably the first version of treatment in prisons, serves to provide some inmates with positive direction and meaning for their lives and can be a source of hope that their future holds more promise than their past. For other prisoners (sex offenders, for example) religious programming provide protection. These are all legitimate reasons for the continued use of both recreation and religious programming in prisons.
