Once you’ve written the copy, you’ll most likely need to get it approved by the department responsible for external communications, such as the Public Relations Department or the Marketing Department. You’ll also need to have someone edit the text, and when the composition is complete, you should have someone proofread the copy to check for errors.
You need to consider the context in order to make decisions about text layout and formatting. Will your composition appear in a newsletter that uses a particular font set? If so, you’ll need to use a font from that set—unless, of course, your goal is to draw attention to the image in a way that is out of the ordinary. You also need to consider the nature of the brand you’re writing about. If your piece is an ad, is there a specific font the company always uses in its advertisements so the text itself is recognizable as part of the brand? Once you understand what the expectations are for written communication in your organization, you can use your image- and text-editing skills to create impressive, attention-grabbing layouts.
