Describe the ligamentous support system for the costotransverse (CT) joint

What will be an ideal response?

ANS: Three major ligaments support the CT joint capsule: the lateral costotransverse ligament (LCTL),
the costotransverse ligament (CTL), and the superior costotransverse ligament (SCTL). The LCTL
is a short, stout band running between the lateral portion of the costal tubercle and the tip of the
corresponding transverse process. The CTL is also composed of short fibers that run within the
costotransverse foramen between the neck of the rib posteriorly and the transverse process at the
same level. The SCTL runs from the crest of the neck of the rib to the inferior border of the cranial
transverse process.
