What risks do prostitutes face?

What will be an ideal response?

According to studies, the risks to a woman and thus her well-being vary according to the venue in which she works. Crimes against prostitutes involve stealing, defrauding, nonpayment, harassment, stalking, nuisance behavior, threats, disorderly conduct, assault, and abduction. Most incidents occur indoors, regardless of the venue; victimization occurs in the assailant's car (street work), the premises (brothels), the assailant's home (out-call), or the worker's residence (in-call). This seems to indicate that privacy and the worker's lack of control are major situational contributors to victimization. There is also the risk of exposure to sexually transmitted diseases, especially HIV/AIDS. Prostitutes infected with HIV are often workers who are also injecting drugs, with research indicating that it is the injecting that is the risk. It has been suggested that the high levels of violence and of psychological distress found among sex workers are not due to the nature of the sex work but instead reflect the stigma associated with the work itself. Prostitutes are at risk of rape because of attitudes, which suggest that sexual attacks upon a prostitute are never truly unwelcome.
