Calculate Mr. G's BEE using the Harris-Benedict equation and the appropriate stress factor
Mr. G originally weighed 225 lbs, lost 10 lbs to 215, and after dialysis weighed 210 lbs. To determine his BEE, I would use his IBW (IBW could be replaced with RBW or both could be calculated) and create an adjusted weight using 210 lbs as his overweight value. Also, in Part I of the case study, Mr. G was 45 years old. It is now 2 + years later as stated in Part II.
Adjusted body wt = [(actual body wt - IBW) × 0.25] + IBW
= [(210 - 166) × 0.25] + 166 = 177 lbs = 80.5 kg
BEE = 66 + (13.7 × 80.5) + (5 × 177.8) - (6.8 × 47) = 66 + 1102.8 + 889 - 319.6
= 1738 kcals 1738 × 1.5 = 2607 kcals
