Explain the concept of interval training and discuss those who commonly use interval training and why
What will be an ideal response?
Answers may vary, but should cover the following points:
Interval training alternates repeated periods of intense exercise with periods of lower-intensity exertion. The more difficult intervals of strenuous activity should be no longer than 1 to 5 minutes. After a brief, but still active, rest, the person continues the exercise but at a more moderate pace. For example, a runner might sprint down the path at an all-out pace for 3 minutes, then slow down and continue running (or jogging) at a more moderate, sustainable pace for a longer period of time. Interval training should not be done every day.
Athletes and others at a higher fitness level use interval training. For example, runners, swimmers, and cyclists use it to improve their times during competition. Others may use it to more quickly improve their exercise intensity in the improvement stage of their fitness program.
