What should you keep in mind when discussing the reasons in a bad-news message?

The explanation should convince the reader that the decision is reasonable. The reasons should be presented honestly and convincingly. If possible, reader benefits or third-party benefits should be discussed. Above all, don't sound selfish, don't manufacture reader benefits, and don't hide behind company policy. Indicate that the decision was a business decision, not a personal one. Avoid mentioning weak reasons.
