When parents are involved with their child's education at school, the home becomes the supportive foundation that the student needs to face the daily challenges encountered.
Establish cooperation:
• Provide parents with information on important processes, such as RTI
• Provide parents with training on how to tutor their child
• Invite parents to volunteer in the classroom
• Develop an informative and consistent communication system between the teacher and the parents regarding homework.
• Communicate frequently through home notes, phone messages, progress reports, parent-teacher conferences, parent nights, e-mail, and at-school events.
• Ask parents to help with academics by reading to their child, signing homework, asking about their child's school day, helping their child practice math facts or spelling words, and taking their child to the library.
• Invite parents to go on field trips or visit the classroom.
• Focus on listening to parents in an effort to gain understanding and show respect.
• Help parents become informed advocates for their child.
• Provide transportation and childcare services for parents to attend school meetings or events

Develop culturally responsive relationships:
• Employ an interpreter for parent conferences
• Print all signs, school communications, and notes in the language spoken by the family
• Send parents a large amount of written and visual information over an extended time
• Videotape some class activities and share them with the parents

Parent-Teacher Conferences:
• The initial parent teacher conference is extremely important, and the preparation for this meeting often determines its success. Prepare for the meeting.
• Successful conferences typically consist of 6 parts:
• Establishing rapport
• Obtaining pertinent information from the parents
• Providing information
• Collaborating with parents to reach a consensus on a plan
• Summarizing the conference and planning follow-up activities
• Evaluating the conference
