How does turning a blind eye to corruption benefit authoritarian regimes in the short run?

What will be an ideal response?

Turning a blind eye to corruption helps the official party limit opposition. Rulers can use patron–clients relation to buy support. As institutions develop in an authoritarian regime, buying support often takes the form of appointments to office. Eventually this creates a window of predictability and a career path, which foments greater degrees of loyalty.
