Briefly list and describe the important goals and considerations of information security.

What will be an ideal response?

Three main goals of information security are to achieve confidentiality, integrity, and availability (see Figure 15.1) within a HRIS.
• Confidentiality: Confidential information must only be accessed, used, or disclosed by authorized users. Confidentially is important for maintaining the privacy of the employees’ personal details.
• Integrity: Integrity means data must be created, modified, or deleted only by authorized users. Employees’ personal information that is stored in HRIS must be accurate and current.
• Availability: Information availability means that the authorized users must be able to process and access the information when required (Ashbaugh & Miranda, 2002). Employees need to fulfill their obligations to a contract of using the HRIS. Common techniques, such as digital signatures and passwords, are used to establish authenticity and nonrepudiation in HRIS.
