Discuss the use of sandplay in counseling. What clients are best suited for this technique?

What will be an ideal response?

?Originally devised by a British physician as a way of helping children describe their horrific experiences of World War I, the sandplay technique was further developed in the late 1940s for therapeutic use with children by Dora Kalff (1980), a Swiss Jungian analyst.
?This medium of expression has grown in popularity and use among counselors
who want to provide their clients with a safe means of expressing themselves.
?The technique employs a sandtray, a low-sided rectangular box of sand in which the client places miniature toys (people, animals, buildings, and so forth). The toys can be played with spontaneously or placed in reference to some question posed by the counselor.
?When a client is satisfied with the picture he has created in the sandtray, the therapist photographs it. Having a record of the pictures created by the client is an important part of the technique and allows the therapist to monitor the therapy.
?Sandplay gives the client the opportunity to talk about the events of his life in a way that is safe because the stories are contained in the tray, outside of himself.
This externalization makes it easier to talk about difficult events in a way that would not otherwise be possible. Sometimes called “a waking dream,” sandplay is used primarily with children, but it is also effective with traumatized adults.
