Describe how pressure builds inside the system.
What will be an ideal response?
Pressure builds through the natural expansion of water to steam. Steam can be raised to higher temperatures as it comes into contact with higher temperatures in the superheated tubes. The upper steam drum has a large vapor disengaging cavity that is specifically designed to build pressure since vapors are much more compressible than liquid. A pressure control valve is located on the steam outlet line and is designed to control system pressures. When the desired set point is achieved, the steam generator is “placed on the line.” Pressure is maintained in the boiler by adding makeup water and continuously applying heat
