Using social stories helps increase appropriate behaviors and decrease inappropriate behaviors.They offer concrete and portable formats to address social situations while providing behavioral solutions to the student in a concrete and portable form. Many different behaviors have been addressed through social stories, such as responding to environmental situations (e.g., fire drills); describing other people’s point of view (e.g., some people like to be in a crowd); defining routines (e.g., changing classes, or going to school); or describing an upcoming event (e.g., school assembly, or field trip).
