In terms of their ability to resist water penetration, did the thick exterior masonry walls used in historic buildings behave as reservoir walls or face-sealed walls? Explain.

What will be an ideal response?

They were not face -sealed walls because they absorbed water. As the rain continued, the walls absorbed an increasing amount of water and stored it within the pores of the masonry material, which acted as tiny reservoirs. Hence, they were reservoir-type walls.
