Clear definitions of what types of relationships are allowed. In other words, are
relationships permitted between superiors and subordinates as well as co-workers? Are
only individuals in different units permitted to date?
Definitions of what behaviors are considered appropriate in the work environment. Will
couples be allowed to hold hands or share emails and telephone calls during work hours
and on company property?
Have in place alternative assessment opportunities if the couple involves a superior. To
eliminate the perception of unfairness, it is best if a couple involved in a romantic
relationship are not evaluating one another or deciding salary raises or promotions.
Managers should meet with romantically involved couples to be assured that the
relationship is indeed consensual and not violating any organizational sexual harassment
policies. Managers should also monitor post break up couples to ensure that no company
policies dealing with sexual harassment or violence are being violated.
