Basing studies exclusively on samples of White college students or other samples of European Americans involves making an unjustified inference from an all-White sample to all people. In other words, the error of overgeneralization. Moreover, the experiences of people of color are then marginalized and made invisible. The consequence is that Whites represent “people,” and everyone else becomes “subcultures.”
