Evaluate the decisions made by the Council of Trent.
What will be an ideal response?
Over three sessions, the Council concentrated on restoring internal Church discipline and halted the selling of Church offices and religious goods. By edict, clergy were required to preach regularly, exert local discipline, be active among the parishioners, and to live simply, without ostentation. Bishops were to maintain strict celibacy and to create a seminary in every diocese. Traditional Roman Catholic doctrines were strongly reinforced, reaffirming the role of good works in salvation, transubstantiation in the Eucharist, clerical celibacy, the reality of purgatory, the veneration of saints and relics, and letters of indulgence.
