Explain what is meant by "within-child factors" and why there are important factors related to RTI. Describe other factors that are also important to consider and explain why.

What will be an ideal response?

Answers should define within-child factors as factors that have traditionally been the focus of determining whether a student had special needs, include cognitive functioning (which can be measured by an IQ test), academic functioning (often assessed by individually administered tests in reading, math, writing, and spelling), or functioning on such processing measures as auditory and visual tasks. Emphasis is also placed on how students are performing in the classroom, whether students are meeting the academic and social demands of their grade level, and whether the classroom environment is conducive to learning.
