What were Victorian views on sexuality?
What will be an ideal response?
Answers will vary. The Victorian Age was not known for its sexual freedom. Pamphlets against "self-abuse" warned that masturbation could lead to blindness and death; homosexuality was literally unspeakable; the term was not coined until 1869. Men and women were only to enjoy sexual pleasures within the confines of marriage. The term "Victorian" has come to mean priggish, repressed, and moralistic; although not everyone who lived in the Victorian Age shared these views, they were the standard.
