What has led to the sharply decreased rate of poverty among the elderly?
What will be an ideal response?
Rising Social Security payments in the 1960s and 1970s sharply reduced the traditionally high poverty rate of the elderly. Of course, Social Security is not specifically an antipoverty program, but without it half of the elderly would have been poor and the general poverty rate would have been 8% higher in 2015.
