Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) is a national body that specializes in accrediting programs in the field of counseling. It develops standards for training of graduate level counselors. It accredits master’s level programs in the following areas: addictions counseling, career counseling, clinical mental health counseling, marriage, couple, and family counseling, school counseling, and student affairs and college counseling. It also accredits doctoral programs in counselor education and supervision.

The Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE) is a national body that specializes in accrediting programs in the field of rehabilitation counseling. It seeks to provide graduates with knowledge and skills to work with individuals with physical, mental, and/or emotional disabilities. In 2013 CORE and CACREP created an agreement where CORE is a corporate affiliate of CACREP, and together they developed accreditation standards for the clinical rehabilitation counseling specialty.
