Describe four guidelines for intervening effectively. Explain why each is important
What will be an ideal response?
Four guidelines for intervening effectively include: 1) demonstrate withitness and overlapping, which communicates to the students that the teacher knows what's going on in all parts of the classroom all the time and is able to attend to two things at once; 2) preserve student dignity, which helps maintain a positive classroom climate; 3) maintain consistency, to help students believe that the world is an orderly place and rules and the enforcement of them make sense; and 4) keep communication congruent, because incongruent communication sends a mixed message to students who are more likely to believe what is communicated in nonverbal behavior than what is communicated verbally.
