Born in the 1960s, the Chicano Movement was composed of Latino organizations focusing on a variety of issues, including equal employment rights and equal access to education. Led by individuals such as Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta, and engaging in protests and boycotts, they succeeded by the early 1970s in getting Latinos recognized as a racial minority group, covered by all appropriate laws and protections.
