Describe the stages at which genetic sex, gonadal sex, and phenotypic sex are established
What will be an ideal response?
The sex of an individual is formed in three stages. The first stage—chromosomal sex—occurs at fertilization with the formation of a zygote with either an XX or XY chromosome pair. During the second stage, in males, the undifferentiated gonads develop into testes and, in females, they develop into ovaries. During the third stage in males, testosterone (converted into DHT) directs the formation of the penis and scrotum. In females, no DHT is present, and the genital tubercle develops into the clitoris, the genital folds form the labia minora, and the labioscrotal swellings form the labia majora.
