Reflect on the six guiding principles. Choose one principal and write about why you think that is the most important principle for your teaching?

What would be an ideal response?

I believe that the most important principle for my teaching is the access and equity principle. Math was never easy for me. I felt that I needed more assistance and attention than my other classmates did. Luckily, I was comfortable asking my teachers if they had time to meet in their office after class or during lunch. I know that many students would not be comfortable asking a teacher that same question. I want to make sure that I'm looking out for and am aware of the students who are struggling and are looking for extra help. I like that this principle first states that the educator needs to have the high expectations that their students can learn the lesson. This is so important because, with all of the many struggling students, not many educators have taken the time or shown interest that they are smart and can achieve what their classmates achieve AND more. As we know, all students will learn and progress at their own rate, this is why educators need to focus on equity for each student, NOT equality. A band-aid doesn't heal all wounds. So don't give someone a band-aid for a broken arm.  I also think that is principle is so important because each student may understand how to solve a certain problem in different ways. As a teacher, I want to provide my students with the freedom to show how they solved the problem even if their way of thinking is not the same. Lastly, I love the idea of celebrating each little milestone for my students! Even if it seems small, its progress and it's worth celebrating over!
