Task and maintenance roles are an important aspect of positive group functioning. Explain why it is important for a member not to get locked into rigidly performing any one of these roles.

What will be an ideal response?

Group members who get locked into task and maintenance roles can be unhelpful or harmful to the group process. A group member may become consumed with the responsibilities of the role, rather than being a genuine and productive group member. Other group members may acquire negative feelings toward that member causing conflict within the group.
