How did the Soviet Union deal with the various minority groups within its borders? How successful were these policies?
What will be an ideal response?
The Soviet Union inherited a great deal of land and many different ethnic groups in its expansive land area. The USSR recognized these groups with the establishment of "Union Republics" that were based around ethnic and linguistic identities. This essentially reinforced the differences from the Russian core. In part, this policy helped lead to the break-up of the former U.S.S.R. into its component parts.
