How did the concept of biogeography shape Darwin's thinking?
What will be an ideal response?
The geographic distribution of organisms was very striking when Darwin compared two groups of islands that he visited during his voyage on the H.M.S. Beagle. Although the Galàpagos and Cape Verde island groups have similar climates, sizes, and volcanic origins, their organisms do not resemble each other. Rather, the organisms were more closely related to those present on the nearest mainland – South America for the Galàpagos Islands and Africa for the Cape Verde Islands.
