A condition characterized by paralysis, weakness, lack of coordination, and/or other motor dysfunction because of damage to the brain before it has matured. It is part of a syndrome that includes motor dysfunction, psychological dysfunction, seizures, or emotional or behavioral disorders due to brain damage. Symptoms may be so mild that they can be detected only with difficulty, or so profound that the individual is almost completely incapacitated. Its effect on motor functioning range from barely noticeable to obvious, sometimes debilitating paralysis of different parts of the body (quadriplegia, paraplegia) or problems with voluntary movement (spasticity, choreoathetoid). The effects on strength and the ability to move parts of the body normally do not necessarily mean damage to intelligence or emotional development
