Discuss some general safety considerations you should be aware of when considering joint movement techniques with a client

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: When considering the inclusion of mobilization and stretching techniques in a massage session, massage practitioners should begin with a knowledge of anatomy and physiology, particularly how the various joints in the body work and their normal range of motion. They should also understand that normal range of motion is a baseline for how the particular joints move, but that each individual will have a unique range based on fitness level, health, and other factors. Practitioners should hone their palpation skills so they are aware of how joints should feel. For example, drag and end feel will provide them with clues about possible restrictions to normal range of motion, areas of tightness, patterns of holding, and the limits of stretches–as long as they can "feel" these sensations through palpation. Finally, practitioners need to be aware of serious cautions and contraindications to joint mobilization and stretching techniques, such as joint abnormalities, past trauma to the area, inflammation, and diseases and disorders.
