Explain what interpass temperature is, including minimum and maximum interpass temperatures.

What will be an ideal response?

Interpass temperature is the temperature of the metal during welding. The interpass temperature is given as a minimum and maximum. The minimum temperature is usually the same as the preheat temperature. If the plate cools below this temperature during welding, it should be reheated. The maximum temperature may be specified to keep the plate below a certain phase change temperature for the steel used. The maximum interpass temperature occurs when the weld bead cannot be controlled because of a slow cooling rate. When this happens, the plate should be allowed to cool down, but not below the minimum interpass temperature.
