What is the nature and function of love, according to Buss?

What will be an ideal response?

According to Buss, the fact that love is universal proves its evolved nature. He considers it an
evolved mechanism, designed as an answer to certain problems of survival and reproduction. He
postulates the existence of psychological circuits dedicated to love. Love has probably served and does
serve several functions. First is the display of reproductively relevant resources. Commitment is
displayed, which is especially important for women. Love also signals sexual fidelity, which is of great
significance for men. Love and acts of love also signal parental investment. Gender differences
concerning love support its evolved nature. Men fall in love more quickly, which helps promote short-
term mating, whereas for women, it is a longer process. Love was probably developed as an answer to
certain changes. One of them is the appearance of long-term relationships. The second is concealed
ovulation. The third one is paternal investment.
