According to research, what are four long-term benefits of compensatory education? What other benefits do you believe exist for families and children who participate in compensatory education?

What will be an ideal response?

There are several long-term benefits of compensatory education to include the following: (1) children exposed to early intervention programs demonstrate higher performance on standardized measures of intellectual development and academic achievement than those not exposed to such programs. Children exposed to early intervention also demonstrated (2) higher incomes as adults; (3) decreased delinquency, crime, and arrests; (4) decreased use of welfare assistance or other community social service support; (5) reduced rates of teenage pregnancy; (6) higher frequency of high school graduation rates and higher enrollment in postsecondary programs and employment; and (7) higher likelihood to own their own home. Student’s answers to the second part of the question may vary, but students might discuss benefits such as families feeling hopeful for their futures, where they may not have felt that before participating in such programs. Families and children might also feel more a part of their communicaties by being connected with important others in their communities and by being able to participate in ways they wouldn’t have been able to before their participation in these groups. And as always, education is power, thus families and children may feel a greater sense of agency and control over their own lives.
