He or she might become a reporter of abuse that is discovered and provide information to criminal justice or health department agencies. An ombudsman may be a paid staff member or a trained volunteer. In addition to being an impartial fact finder, the ombudsman is an advocate for improving the quality of life for nursing home residents.
