Explain how the body maintains blood glucose levels

Blood glucose levels are not constant–they rise and fall according to the body's carbohydrate intake and energy needs. Two hormones–insulin and glucagon--are secreted from the pancreas to maintain blood glucose levels between 70 and 110 milligrams per deciliter. When blood glucose levels are too high, the pancreas produces insulin to lower and normalize blood glucose levels. When blood glucose levels are too low, the pancreas produces glucagon to increase and return blood glucose levels to normal. Hormones such as epinephrine, norepinephrine, cortisol, and growth hormone assist in the process of normalization of blood glucose levels.
