Write an essay that discusses the formation of mesocyclones and tornadoes, and also examines how scientists rank the intensity of tornadoes
What will be an ideal response?
Strong winds aloft establish spinning. Updraft from the thunderstorm development tilts the rotating air mass, causing a mesocyclone to form as a rotating updraft within the thunderstorm. As moisture-laden air is drawn-up into the circulation of a mesocyclone, energy is released by condensation, and the rotation speed increases. This movement may form a smaller funnel cloud. If the funnel cloud lowers to the Earth, a tornado results. The intensity is ranked based on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which is an estimate of wind speed based on damage. It goes of EF 0 to EF 5.

Which of the following statements about the movement of Earth's atmosphere is correct?
A) A column of cool, dense air produces low pressure at the Earth's surface. B) A column of warm, less dense air produces high pressure at the Earth's surface. C) Warm air is denser than cool air so it tends to sink toward the Earth's surface. D) The movement of air within the atmospheric convection cells generates the wind belts. E) Cold air is less dense than cool air so it tends to sink toward the Earth's surface.
