Explain how thieftakers differed from modern day bounty hunters.

What will be an ideal response?

Answer should note that the crime victim pays the thieftaker (not the bondsman). Thieftakers are criminals themselves, who would perjure themselves at trial. They imprisoned the thieves that they captured without treating them humanely.
