In what way do the symptoms of depression in Western and non-Western societies differ?

What will be an ideal response?

While the Western constellation of depressive symptoms is primarily psychological, in
many cultures the symptoms tend to be more somatic. In those cultures in which there is
great stigma associated with mental illness and/or a lack of emotional expressiveness,
depression may manifest itself in symptoms such as weight loss, sleep disturbances, and
sexual dysfunction. In addition, the feelings of guilt and worthlessness that characterize
depression in individualistic cultures may not be seen in more communal cultures.
