What are three significant environmental costs of development? Give examples of each to illustrate your answer.
What will be an ideal response?
Three significant environmental costs include pollution, resource depletion and climate change. Pollution exists in a variety of forms from air, water, soil, and visual. Factories, automobiles, and mining are three major contributors to pollution. Natural resource depletion is resulting in deforestation, desertification, and loss of arable land. It could ultimately lead to societal collapse as has happened in the past. Finally climate change threatens the entire global population. Anthropogenic causes of changes in climate continue to create problems like melting glaciers and warmer temperatures. African and Asian nations will experience the worst impact.
