On the basis of Lev Vygotsky's theories, how might we regulate the behaviors of an impatient child who refuses to take turns while playing games and often interrupts when other children are talking in kindergarten class?

What will be an ideal response?

Vygotsky would most likely suggest that we help the impatient child learn how to use his or her private speech to self-regulate behaviors. Self-regulation involves the ability to foresee the future, plan, guide and monitor one's own thinking and problem solving. Private speech is simply talking to oneself, and it may be audible or inaudible. We could help the impatient child learn how to talk to himself or herself with private reminders to wait for the others to take their turns and raise a hand before speaking out in class.
