Describe Codd’s rules for OLAP tools.

In 1993, E.F. Codd formulated twelve rules as the basis for selecting OLAP tools. The publication of these rules was the outcome of research carried out on behalf of Arbor Software (the creators of Essbase) and has resulted in a formalized redefinition of the requirements for OLAP tools. Codd’s rules for OLAP are listed in Table 33.2 (Codd et al., 1993).
