Explain the functions of the differential.

What will be an ideal response?

The differential allows a difference in driving wheel speed when the vehicle is rounding a corner or a curve. It also transfers torque equally to both driving wheels when the vehicle is traveling in a straight line. Differential action improves vehicle handling and reduces driving wheel wear.

The subsequent problems deal with the circuit shown below. Assume that the diode is ideal (i.e., has a 0V forward bias voltage) and the capacitor has no charge initially. Assume R1 = R2 = R.Immediately after the power is applied (i.e., the circuit is not in steady state yet), what is the voltage across the capacitor if Vdc > 0?

A. 0 V B. 2Vdc C. Vdc / 2 D. Vdc / 3 E. Vdc
