What are some characteristics of families that are parented by a step-parent?

What will be an ideal response?

Most families with a step-parent have a male that moves into that role because most women retain custody of their children. When a step-father comes into the picture, income in the family usually increases. Mother's emotional well-being increases because of the remarriage. However, children do not do well when a new step-parent enters the picture. 20% of children with a step-parent have serious problems in at least one area of functioning.
