Contrast of extension addresses comparing one color against another by weighing how much of a color is needed to achieve harmony or balance when compared with another. Simultaneous contrast is a phenomenon where the human eye seeks harmonious balance in the complement of a color. Simultaneous contrast also occurs in color relationships in which the interaction of colors affects how people perceive them. An example would be how the color of a design element in a composition seems to shift in hue, value or intensity depending on the dcolor that surrounds it in the composition.
